Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing Communications, the Communications Officer will play a central role in supporting and contributing to WCHF’s robust communications portfolio. Using strong story seeking skills, you will be responsible for creating compelling content that will engage and inform the WCHF’s broad audience and inspire support for WCH. From ideation and development to editing and dissemination, the content you create will help to advance the Foundation’s strategic priorities and amplify our brand. This role requires the nimbleness to both think critically and execute at a tactical level.
Core Deliverables:
- Write and create marketing communications content for e-newsletters, donor/patient stories, key messages, speeches for staff, brochures, websites, stewardship reports and/or fundraising materials (including cases for support)
- Contribute editorial content to the bi-annual newsletter and annual report
- Assist in the ideation and creation of written, video and photo content
- Develop relationships with key clinicians and WCH staff to identify and compose compelling stories and articles that celebrate the importance of philanthropic giving to WCH
- Conduct outreach and interviews with internal and external stakeholders to develop stories that advance strategic priorities and initiatives
- Consult with cross-departmental teams to develop marketing and/or communications materials and to draft, review and discuss communications briefs
- Create marketing and communications materials in support of campaigns and special events
- Maintain close working relationships with the WCH Strategic Communications team to ensure the Foundation has a regular and engaging presence within internal communications channels and key messages are aligned
- Create and curate content for WCHF’s Content Hubs – a resource for fundraisers and communicators.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism or related field, or comparable work experience.
• Minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience in a communications or marketing-related field.
• Experience working in healthcare or not for profit sector an asset.
• Proven experience writing highly engaging and inspiring content.
• Superior communication and interviewing skills.
• Experience writing for different communication mediums.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, SharePoint.
• Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and Raisin an asset.
