Job Description

  • Complete risk assessments, hazard analysis, and physical demand analysis of specific work functions within the Hospital
  • Coordinates the Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings including providing reports and assisting with mandatory inspections
  • Completes safety inspections
  • Responsible for reviewing and revising safety policies, establishing standard operation procedures, and ensuring compliance with legislation and company policy
  • Act as the primary contact and resource for up to date and comprehensive Health & Safety e-Learning content
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from staff, physicians and volunteers regarding safety issues, and uses professional judgment to provide guidance
  • Provides education and training on safety related issues
  • Reviews all safety reports and incidents reported on the online reporting system
  • Follow up and assist managers with corrective actions on all employee safety related incident reports
  • Works collaboratively with Facilities on any safety related or new building projects
  • Ensures the hospital maintains an inventory of safety equipment such as spill kits and emergency shower/eyewash kits
  • Completes incident investigations and work with supervisors to identify corrective actions to address the root causes and contributing factors of incidents
  • Ensure industrial hygiene assessments are completed, as necessary 
  • Responsible for the Respiratory Fit testing program including testing supply maintenance and physician and employee metrics
  • Prepares reports for the People Scorecard for safety related metrics
  • Works with external vendor to provide de-escalation training as part of Violence Prevention Program
  • Attends incident debrief meetings and prepares safety plans as required
  • Participates in MOL inspections and provides written exposure notification to MOL
  • Works in collaboration with Emergency Preparedness and provides support during relevant emergency codes and follow up investigations.
  • Participates in external projects
  • Support IPAC Practitioner and Wellness Coordinator, as and when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Indistrial Hygiene or related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and related experience
  • Possession of a valid Health & Safety designation/certification issued from an accredited association in Canada preferred e.g. CRSP or CRST
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Health and Safety Insurance Act and Human Rights Code of Ontario
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively articulate the important components of an safety program with all levels of personnel/clients
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate health and safety, policies and programs
  • Possesses knowledge of and is able to utilize educational principles in program development and teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations
  • Experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments (e.g. IAQ, noise, light and etc.)
  • Experience in ambulatory care hospital and/or healthcare industry an asset
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, able to work with a high level of accuracy
  • Able to work independently in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with interdisciplinary staff at all levels of the organization
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • First Aid/CPR and AED certification an asset
  • Good work and attendance record required
