Job Description

A casual opportunity exists as a Chiropodist with the Family Practice Health Centre reporting to the Executive Director.

Summary of Duties:
• Assessment of intrinsic and extrinsic structural and functional abnormalities affecting the correct functioning of the foot
• Recognition of disease, disorders and dysfunction of the foot and ankle
• Provides assessment and treatment of acute and chronic pathological foot conditions, minor surgical procedures and preventative foot care for patients
• Will operate within their full scope of practice and work cooperatively with all members of the health care team in the promotion of patient health and prevention of disease
• Provides compression and other fittings - stocking, braces, and custom fittings
• Biomechanical and gait analysis
• Casting for function and accommodative orthotics, and modification to orthoses
• Design short term and long term plans for our patients, patient education/counseling
• Documentation and maintaining patient needs in electronic medical record
• Prepare reports for third party insurance, referring doctors and employers
• Telephone and written communication with internal and external professionals on an ongoing basis
• Participate in teaching medical trainees, nursing students, and other health disciplines as required

Qualifications

• Successful completion of undergraduate degree in Chiropody
• Current registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an academic, outpatient environment, preferred
• Experience working in interprofessional teams, working closely with health disciplines, medical and nursing staff
• Experience as a preceptor an asset
• Experience with use of orthotic grinder for orthotic modifications
• Experience with different orthotic materials and pads for orthotic adjustments
• Competent in use of plaster of pairs for foot 3D volumetric casting
• Competent in general foot care including nail care, callus debridement, corn enucleation, verrucae treatment, and nail surgery
• Up-to-date knowledge on core competencies of professional standards, ethics and reflective practice
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making and conflict resolution skills, required
• Proficiency in computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical records, required
• Good work and attendance record required
